Gwangju Seo-gu to Hold 'Blood Donation and Organ Donation Registration' Event on the 26th

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Kim Yi-gang) announced on the 24th that it will hold the third ‘Blood Donation and Organ Donation Hope Registration Event’ of this year on the 26th.

The event is being promoted jointly with the Korean Red Cross Gwangju-Jeonnam Blood Center to overcome the blood supply crisis caused by the resurgence of COVID-19 and to practice life sharing.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the blood donation bus in the parking lot in front of the Traffic Department of Seo-gu Office, targeting Seo-gu public officials and general residents.

Those who wish to participate must bring an ID card. Blood donation is available for those aged 16 to under 70 (men must weigh at least 50 kg, women at least 45 kg), and organ donation hope registration is available for those aged 16 and over.

Public officials who participate in blood donation will be granted official leave and 4 hours of continuous learning, and residents will receive 4 hours of volunteer time and a small commemorative gift.

Meanwhile, more than 100 Seo-gu public officials and local residents participated in blood donation at the two events held in the first half of the year.

A health center official said, “With the resurgence of COVID-19, group blood donations have decreased, and it is difficult to secure emergency blood during the summer vacation and other times, so we hope many people will share this intention.”
