[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 21st that it will jointly host the ‘Seoul Street Fashion Travel Week (NEXT FASHION 2022)’ with Musinsa for four days starting from the 1st of next month in the Seoul Forest and Seongsu areas. This event is a cultural experience tourism festival that marks the beginning of a new Korean Wave trend by connecting fashion, music, and local culture to encourage diverse experiences and participation, thereby boosting local tourism consumption.
Accordingly, Seoul City and Musinsa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 18th to revitalize Korean Wave tourism in Seoul ahead of the event. Through this agreement, Seoul City and Musinsa plan to actively cooperate in the K-fashion themed Korean Wave tourism sector, including the joint promotion of ‘NEXT FASHION 2022’ and the development of ‘fashion makeover experience content.’
The inaugural ‘Seoul Street Fashion Travel Week (NEXT FASHION 2022)’ was planned with a focus on expanding the scope of Korean Wave tourism beyond entertainment content such as dramas and K-pop, to include local culture and brands that embody Korea’s unique lifestyle.
In particular, the event features various experience programs centered on K-fashion, reflecting the tourism trends of the younger generation who support the Korean Wave, characterized by “normalization and diversification of travel.”
The event will be held mainly in Seongsu, Seoul’s fashion hub that is hot and hip, attracting global fashion brands’ attention, and Seoul Forest. The content is designed to stimulate the interest of sophisticated tourists by focusing on playfulness (OOTD certification photos) and locality (Next Seongsu local tours, etc.). It is open to anyone interested in fashion, including tourists and general citizens.
Meanwhile, due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, Seoul City plans to continuously guide users on preventive measures such as wearing masks and frequent use of hand sanitizers through promotional materials like banners, and will deploy safety personnel on-site to ensure the event proceeds safely.
Choi Kyung-joo, Director of the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, “The Seoul Street Fashion Travel Week, held for the first time this year, was prepared through public-private collaboration to encourage voluntary participation and spread among the MZ generation, the main consumers of the Korean Wave. We hope it will serve as an opportunity to foster the growth of small but attractive brands and develop the local tourism ecosystem.”

He added, “Tourism content requires continuity (local commercial districts) and rarity (local culture), and I believe Seoul’s tourism competitiveness lies in its streets and regional marketing. We will brand Seongsu, which embodies fashion culture, through this event to nurture it into a global landmark like SoHo and Brooklyn in New York.”
