Public Power Companies Accelerate Eco-Friendly Energy Projects... Strengthening Carbon Neutrality
[Asia Economy Sejong=Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Public power companies are strengthening cooperative models such as research and development (R&D) for the transition to eco-friendly energy.
According to the energy industry on the 20th, Namdong Power is launching a green hydrogen and ammonia business based on renewable energy resources together with SK E&S.
SK E&S purchases green hydrogen (H2) and ammonia produced without carbon emissions and Namdong Power uses them as co-firing fuels for coal and gas power generation facilities operated domestically. SK E&S has established a joint venture, SK Plug Hyverse, with the US hydrogen company Plug Power to promote joint projects in the Asian region.
Dongseo Power recently established the ‘2035 Co-prosperity Mid-to-Long-Term Strategy,’ a roadmap to promote eco-friendly energy transition through win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises.
To achieve the vision of co-prosperity, Dongseo Power set three strategic directions: inducing the ‘transition’ to eco-friendly and renewable energy, leading the energy market through partnership, and securing energy technology for ‘growth.’ It identified 10 strategic tasks to be gradually implemented by 2035.
Jungbu Power signed the '2022 Partner ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) Support Project Agreement' with the Win-Win Growth Committee and contributed 100 million KRW to the win-win cooperation fund to enhance the ESG response capabilities of partner SMEs.
The Win-Win Growth Committee plans to develop customized ESG evaluation indicators by industry and company for Jungbu Power’s partners and provide related education and consulting through this initiative.
Nambu Power also joined hands with Lotte Chemical and Lotte Fine Chemical to achieve the 2030 national greenhouse gas reduction target and activate the hydrogen economy. Through the agreement, Nambu Power will collaborate on securing a stable supply chain for hydrogen and ammonia and developing related core technologies to reduce greenhouse gases.
They plan to conduct joint R&D for overseas clean hydrogen and ammonia production, exchange technical information on ammonia infrastructure facility operation, and cooperate on hydrogen and ammonia utilization projects.
Seobu Power is reportedly cooperating with Hanwha Impact and the US energy company Tellurian on projects such as improving the performance of hydrogen co-firing gas turbines.
