Korea Airports Corporation Signs R&D Agreement with Defense Acquisition Program Administration and Agency for Defense Development
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Korea Airports Corporation announced on the 18th that it signed a mutual cooperation agreement for research and development to advance technologies such as artificial intelligence and information and communication in the aviation and air navigation fields with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration and the Agency for Defense Development (Civil-Military Cooperation Promotion Agency) at its headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul.
Through this agreement, the three organizations agreed to organically cooperate to promote technological development in aviation and air navigation and the application in the defense sector by ▲discovering and planning projects usable by both civilian and military sectors ▲sharing plans for events such as exhibitions and fairs ▲sharing information on new technologies and industries through technical seminars and workshops.
The Defense Acquisition Program Administration and the Agency for Defense Development are promoting research and development for technology cooperation between military and civilian sectors. Korea Airports Corporation is pursuing the realization of future airports based on the 4th industrial revolution, including AI X-ray automatic reading systems and illegal drone response systems, and expects that this cooperative framework will facilitate more active information exchange and mutual technology transfer between civilian and military sectors.
Shin Yong-gu, Head of the Aviation Business Division at Korea Airports Corporation, stated, “Through this agreement, we expect to discover research and development projects usable by both civilian and military sectors and that the entry of our corporation’s technologies into the defense sector will provide an opportunity to secure new growth engines.”

Meanwhile, the corporation signed a mutual cooperation agreement with the Defense Acquisition Program Administration last December to expand exports of Tactical Air Navigation (TACAN) devices, and plans to expand the scope of cooperation to research and development in the aviation and air navigation fields through this agreement.
