Catch Marine Pollution Violators with My Own Hands! ... Up to 3 Million KRW Even if Perpetrators Are Unspecified
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Changwon Maritime Police Station in Gyeongnam will provide rewards to informants who report marine pollution violations.
On the 18th, Changwon Maritime Police announced that they have improved the reward system for reports, stating that even if the violator is not identified in the report, a reward will be given if the violator is caught through the report details and on-site investigation.
The Maritime Police currently provide rewards ranging from a minimum of 50,000 KRW to a maximum of 3,000,000 KRW to informants who report illegal discharge of pollutants from vessels or marine facilities into the sea, depending on the scale of pollution and type of discharged substances.
Until now, rewards were only given for reports that identified the violator, but due to low payment rates, the scope has been expanded to include cases where the violator is identified through investigation after receiving reports without identifying the violator.
The expanded reward payment policy will be applied immediately, and reports of marine pollution incidents from the first half of this year will be retroactively eligible.
