The 72nd Anniversary Ceremony Commemorating the Victory of the Jindong-ri District Battle
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, is taking a commemorative photo with members of the Marine Corps Changwon City Masan United Veterans Association at the 72nd anniversary ceremony of the Jindong-ri District Battle Victory.
View original image[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] On August 3, 1950, in Jindong, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon-si, Gyeongnam, the Marine Corps unit led by Kim Seong-eun, assigned to the 27th Regiment of the U.S. 25th Infantry Division, launched a surprise attack on the 6th Division Reconnaissance Battalion of the North Korean Army in the Jindong area.
The Marine Corps achieved the first victory for the allied forces by killing 171 North Korean soldiers and capturing 8 as prisoners of war. To commemorate this day, known as the Battle of Jindongri District, a memorial ceremony has been held annually since 2000 at the Marine Corps Jindongri District Victory Monument in Jinbuk-myeon.

At this year's 72nd anniversary ceremony, Mayor Hong Nam-pyo stated, “We will remember the noble fighting spirit of the veterans who defended this country and make this city one that remembers the past, appreciates sacrifice and dedication, and repays that gratitude through development and growth.”
