'Gwanghwamun 1beonga' → 'ON Gukmin Sotong' Revamp... Linked with Platforms of 14 Metropolitan Local Governments
Strengthening the Role of Online Communication Channels through Functional Enhancements
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The national participation online platform 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street' will be revamped as 'ON (ON) National Communication' starting from the 5th.
On the 4th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety conducted an online contest from June 14 to 28 for 14 days to find a new name that comprehensively represents the image of a representative channel for national participation and communication. A total of 143 names were submitted, and through expert evaluation, the new name for 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street' was finalized as 'ON (ON) National Communication.'
'ON (ON) National Communication' implies 'all citizens communicate' and expresses the hope for warm (溫) communication with the people. It also means that the communication channel between the government and the people should always be turned on (ON). As of the end of June, 'Gwanghwamun 1st Street' has had 580,000 members and 14,612 proposals, serving as a channel for public policy participation.
The newly launched 'ON (ON) National Communication' has enhanced functions in accordance with recent amendments to laws related to public participation. First, under the Presidential Decree on the operation of contests by administrative agencies, all contest-related information conducted by ministries and central administrative agencies will be disclosed to the public, and strict evaluation procedures will be implemented to ensure fairness and transparency.
Additionally, following the amendment of the Administrative Procedures Act, online public hearings, which previously could not be held independently apart from on-site hearings, can now be held independently under certain conditions. To improve user convenience by integrating proposals posted on various participation platforms, 'ON (ON) National Communication' has been linked with proposal platforms operated by 14 metropolitan local governments.
