‘Unlicensed Driving and Refusal of Breath Test’ Rapper Noel, Son of Jang Je-won... Appeals Second Trial Decision
Sentenced to 1 Year Imprisonment in Both 1st and 2nd Trials... Prosecution Submitted Appeal to Court on the 1st of This Month
[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] Jang Je-won, a member of the People Power Party, whose son, rapper Noel (real name Jang Yong-jun), was sentenced to one year in prison in the appellate court for charges including refusing a police breathalyzer test and assaulting a police officer, has appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court.
According to the legal community on the 3rd, Jang's lawyer submitted a notice of appeal to the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Appeals Division 4-3 (Presiding Judge Cha Eun-kyung) on the same day.
Jang was arrested on suspicion of refusing a police breathalyzer test and headbutting a police officer after causing a collision while driving a passenger car near Seongmo Hospital Intersection in Seocho-gu, Seoul, around 10:30 p.m. on September 18 last year. He was indicted while in custody in October last year. Jang's driver's license had already been revoked in 2019 due to a drunk driving accident.
In the first trial, except for the charge of assaulting a police officer, Jang was found guilty of the other charges and sentenced to one year in prison. The second trial upheld the first trial's decision and sentenced Jang to one year in prison.
The prosecution filed a notice of appeal with the court on the 1st. The prosecution had requested a three-year prison sentence for Jang in both the first and second trials.
