Zelensky: "This Year's Grain Harvest Likely Only Half of Average"
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on the 31st (local time) that "Ukraine's grain harvest this year is feared to be only about half of the average year."
President Zelenskyy said on Twitter that day, "Our main goal is to prevent the global food crisis caused by Russia's invasion."
Ukraine is an important grain exporter, ranking among the top four in the world in the production of major grains such as wheat, corn, and sunflower oil. Since Russia's invasion in February, many wheat fields in Ukraine have been bombed and burned, causing difficulties in grain cultivation.
In response, on the 22nd, an agreement was reached, mediated by the United Nations and T?rkiye (Turkey), to guarantee the safety of routes for exporting grains from Ukraine and Russia through the Black Sea.
