Hyundai Ioniq 5 Tops ID.5 and Polestar 2 in German Expert Comparison Review
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor Company's dedicated electric vehicle Ioniq 5 has proven its top competitiveness in a comparative evaluation against new electric vehicles in Europe.
Hyundai Motor announced on the 31st that the Ioniq 5 ranked first in a comparative evaluation of electric vehicle models conducted by Germany's leading automotive magazine, Auto Motor und Sport (AMS), surpassing the Volkswagen ID.5 and Volvo Polestar 2.
This positive review is particularly meaningful as the Ioniq 5 outperformed Volkswagen's newly released electric coupe SUV ID.5 in Europe by a significant margin. This is the first time the Ioniq 5 has competed against the Volkswagen ID.5 in a German automotive magazine's comparative evaluation.
AMS is one of the three most trusted German automotive magazines alongside Auto Bild and Auto Zeitung, wielding considerable influence over consumers not only in Germany but throughout Europe.
The comparative evaluation covered seven categories for the three electric vehicle models?Ioniq 5, ID.5, and Polestar 2?including ▲Body ▲Safety ▲Comfort ▲Powertrain ▲Driving Behavior ▲Environment ▲Economy.
The Ioniq 5 ranked first in three categories: ▲Body ▲Powertrain ▲Economy. With a total score of 617 points, it surpassed the Polestar 2, which scored 588 points, and the ID.5, which scored 586 points, securing the overall first place.
Notably, the point differences from the second and third places were 29 and 31 points respectively, demonstrating dominance even over newly released electric vehicles.
In the Body category, which evaluates interior space, versatility and functionality, and all-around visibility, the Ioniq 5 received the highest score of 108 points compared to the other vehicles. It also earned the highest score of 90 points in the Powertrain category, recognized as a core competitive factor for electric vehicles, affirming its product competitiveness.
Additionally, in the Economy evaluation, which assesses sales price, residual value, repair costs, and fuel costs, the Ioniq 5 achieved the top score of 132 points.
AMS commented, "The Ioniq 5 is an electric vehicle with advantages including fast charging speed, high space utilization, and smooth driving feel."
With this victory, the Ioniq 5 has dominated all major overseas electric vehicles in four electric vehicle comparative evaluations conducted by AMS.
Following its win over the Volkswagen ID.4 in October last year, it surpassed the Tesla Model Y and Ford Mustang Mach-E in April this year. In June, it ranked first in a comparative evaluation against the Audi Q4 40 e-tron, Mercedes-Benz (EQ) EQA 250, and Renault Megane E-Tech EV60.
