[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seongheon) has found that the satisfaction level among elderly participants in the ‘Senior Center Digital Tutor Project,’ conducted to improve the quality of life for the elderly, is high.
The district revealed that a survey of 103 seniors from 22 senior centers who received training in the first half of this year showed that 93% responded, “My skills improved as much as I hoped after participating in the smartphone class.”
This positive response appears to be due to assigning dedicated tutors to each senior center to increase familiarity with the elderly and conducting Q&A-style, tailored education that reduced the burden of the lessons.
The training was conducted on a one-on-one customized basis. To this end, 10 digital tutors visited their assigned senior centers two to three times a week.
They provided 10 sessions of 2-hour training courses covering smartphone usage and hands-on practice with unmanned terminals (kiosks).

The elderly showed positive reactions such as, “I definitely learned how to call a taxi through an app,” “My fear of using kiosks disappeared through on-site practice,” and “The easy smartphone lessons gave me confidence that I can do it too.”
