Jeonnam Governor Kim Young-rok: "We Will Protect Residents' Safety with Flawless Quarantine Measures"
Appeal on COVID-19 Resurgence Risk Announced... Urging Participation in 4th Vaccination and Compliance with Quarantine Rules
[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Kim Young-rok, Governor of Jeonnam Province, stated, "We will firmly protect the lives and safety of residents through thorough quarantine and all-out response."
On the 29th, Governor Kim announced the "Appeal to Residents Regarding the Crisis of the COVID-19 Resurgence and the Spread of Variant Viruses," saying, "We are at a critical juncture of the 6th major wave of COVID-19, which threatens the precious daily lives of residents."
He continued, "Due to the recent spread of the highly transmissible BA.5 variant virus, the daily confirmed cases nationwide have exceeded 100,000, and in Jeonnam, over 2,000," emphasizing, "We are proactively suppressing factors that spread infection in advance and preparing preemptively for a rapid increase in confirmed cases, believing that now is the golden time to prevent the COVID resurgence."
Jeonnam Province will conduct special inspections focusing on recreational and leisure facilities and multi-use facilities, where infection spread is a concern during the vacation season, until the end of next month.
In particular, they plan to minimize infection spread factors by strengthening quarantine management such as supporting quarantine supplies for vulnerable facilities like nursing homes and long-term care hospitals, and blocking the influx of outsiders into senior centers.
To prevent severe infections through vaccination, on-site vaccinations will be conducted at nursing facilities and island areas, and dedicated public officials will be assigned to each facility to encourage vaccination.
Currently, the fourth-dose vaccination rate in Jeonnam is the highest nationwide at 41.2%, and the fatality rate is at the lowest level in the country.
In preparation for a surge in confirmed cases, 529 shared hospital beds have been secured in the Honam region, and the number of "one-stop medical institutions," where testing, diagnosis, and prescription are possible in one place, will be increased from 257 to 300.
To ensure residents who find home treatment difficult can receive treatment with peace of mind, one residential treatment center has been preliminarily designated, with plans to sequentially open up to two centers depending on the situation.
The main daily quarantine rules are ▲ wearing masks indoors at all times and wearing masks during outdoor gatherings, performances, and sports events with 50 or more people ▲ ventilating indoors at least three times a day and periodic disinfection at least once a day ▲ covering mouth with sleeve when coughing ▲ minimizing the number and duration of private gatherings as much as possible ▲ staying home after hospital consultation if cold symptoms appear.
