NHN's 'Pocket Comics' Ranks No.1 in France Webtoon App Revenue for 10 Consecutive Days
[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] NHN's global webtoon platform 'Pocket Comics' is achieving a successful run by ranking number one in sales consecutively in the French market.
According to mobile data and analytics platform data.ai (formerly App Annie) on the 27th, NHN Comico's 'Pocket Comics' has held the number one sales rank for 10 consecutive days recently among webtoon services in the Books category of the French App Store. However, Naver Webtoon was excluded from the competition as it is classified under the Entertainment category.
Launched in France for the first time in January, Pocket Comics is aggressively targeting French female consumers in their 20s and 30s who do not hesitate to spend on webtoon viewing, showing a steep growth trend by setting new monthly sales records. An NHN official explained, "The fact that the sales ranking is higher compared to the monthly active user ranking indicates that there are many loyal customers for the service."
This achievement is analyzed to be mainly due to focusing on the 'romance fantasy' genre to target French female consumers. In particular, the authentic romance fantasy works set in the medieval era, 'The Second Husband is Overwhelming, So I'm Depressed' and 'Nullitas,' were released in the French version, leading to positive sales effects.
In addition to France, Pocket Comics launched a German-language service in April this year, accelerating its push into the European market. Expanding its global bases in Asia centered on Japan and Thailand, as well as North America and Europe, it plans to leap forward as the 'world's number one female-oriented webtoon platform' focusing on romance fantasy.

Kim Ilkyung, Director of NHN Comico's Business Division, stated, "Given the French cultural characteristic that values detailed backgrounds and costumes, the Korean webtoon's unique detailed artwork, fast-paced development, and hooking points at the end of episodes have been popular factors," adding, "We will present a variety of works so that users who entered through the romance fantasy genre can expand to other genres such as BL and modern romance."
