Kim Hyo-joo washes away the disappointment of tying for 3rd place at the Evian Championship by competing in the Trust Golf Scottish Women's Open.
View original image[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] Kim Hyo-joo (27), ranked 9th in the world, feels a bit regretful about the Amundi Evian Championship, the fourth major of the 2022 LPGA Tour season, which ended on the 24th.
Starting from a tie for 6th place, 6 strokes behind the leader, Kim Hyo-joo shot 4 under par and finished tied for 3rd, the best result among Korean players. On the final 18th hole (par 5), her eagle putt just missed the hole, resulting in a birdie. Had the eagle putt dropped, she could have put more pressure on the leader. Kim said, "I earned my LPGA Tour card by winning this tournament in 2014," and added, "Thinking about that helped me play positively, which led to a good result."
Kim Hyo-joo aims for her second victory in Scotland. From the 28th for four days, she will compete in the Trust Golf Scottish Women's Open (total prize money $2 million) held at Dundonald Links (par 72, 6,584 yards) in North Ayrshire, Scotland. This tournament takes place just before the season's final major, the AIG Women's Open. It is a links course identical to Muirfield in East Lothian, Scotland. For players vying for the final major crown of the season, this serves as a preliminary battle.
Kim Hyo-joo continues her smooth progress this year as well. She ranks 4th in scoring average (69.68), 8th in Player of the Year points (71 points), and 11th in earnings ($1,072,527). At the Lotte Championship in April, she earned her 5th career win after 11 months since the HSBC Women's World Championship last May. She has played in 11 tournaments with five top-10 finishes and has been on an upward trend with back-to-back top-5 finishes in the last two events. Kim said, "I will quickly adapt to the conditions in Scotland," and promised, "I will repay with good results."
Ko Jin-young challenges for a multi-title win at the Trust Golf Scottish Women's Open.
View original imageWorld No. 1 Ko Jin-young (27) is challenging for the title. Last week, putting troubles left her tied for 8th place. This is her fifth top-10 finish this year. Ko said, "If even half of my putts had gone in, I would have won." She has increased her driving distance through extensive training and focused on maintaining peak condition. Ko added, "Since the course is very windy, low shots are necessary," and expressed her determination, "I will prepare my best."
