Goheung-gun Launches Heatstroke Prevention Activities for Farmers Amid Heatwave
Support for Projects Including Distribution of Air-Cooling Vests Developed by Nongjincheong and Safety Education Conducted
[Goheung=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shim Jeong-woo] Jeonnam Goheung-gun (Governor Gong Young-min) Agricultural Technology Center announced that it is providing various project supports and safety education for farmers to prevent heat-related illnesses through safe agricultural work in preparation for the summer heatwave.
During the summer, farmers working outdoors or in high-temperature environments such as greenhouses for long hours may experience symptoms of heat-related illnesses such as headaches, dizziness, muscle cramps, fatigue, and decreased consciousness, or face dangerous situations.
To prevent heat-related illnesses among farmers, Goheung-gun is distributing air-cooled vests developed by the Rural Development Administration to greenhouse farmers vulnerable to heat and has installed rest facilities to avoid the heat, receiving great responses from farming households.
Additionally, education is being conducted for elderly farmers and returnees to farming or rural areas, who are vulnerable to heat stress, to prevent heat-related illnesses through safe agricultural work in preparation for heatwaves. Farmers are urged to follow agricultural work safety rules that must be observed for safe farming and healthy living.
An official from the county stated, “To continue safe and healthy agricultural activities during summer farming, it is most important to make heatwave safety rules a daily habit,” adding, “We will expand project discovery and support to minimize damage to farmers vulnerable to heatwaves and continue on-site guidance to prevent heat-related illnesses among farmers.”
