On the 26th, SK Innovation announced at the SK Seorin Building in Jongno-gu, Seoul, that it has supported 550 million KRW in total through the 1% Happiness Sharing fund, allocating 400 million KRW for medical expenses for leukemia and pediatric cancer patients and 150 million KRW for the production and repair support of prosthetic limbs for people with disabilities.
The donations will be used for medical expenses for about 20 children with leukemia and pediatric cancer, and for customized prosthetic limbs used by 15 people with disabilities, including those who suffered from landmine explosion accidents.
The 1% Happiness Sharing fund is established through a matching grant system where employees donate 1% of their base salary each month, and the company matches the same amount.
SK Innovation's donation activities, which began in 2008 with the One Person One Sponsorship program, have continued as the 1% Happiness Sharing since 2017. Over the past five years, about 27.1 billion KRW has been raised through the 1% Happiness Sharing fund up to the first half of this year, and 26.2 billion KRW has been spent on programs supporting partner companies, children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and environmental protection.
Lee Seong-hoon, Chairman of the SK Innovation Labor Union, expressed gratitude to employees who practiced the value of 'together with neighbors' even during the difficult times of COVID-19, saying, "We will continue to develop various programs to help neighbors in need through the 1% Happiness Sharing."
Seo Seon-won, Secretary General of the Korea Leukemia Children's Foundation, said, "Every day, 3 to 4 children, about 1,200 annually, are diagnosed with pediatric cancer in Korea," and added, "We are grateful to SK Innovation members who have given hope of complete recovery to patients and families who had to endure more suffering due to financial difficulties."
