Jangseong Police Station Holds Meeting Between Military and Police Investigation Agencies Regarding Amendment of Military Court Act

[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jo Hangyu] The Jeonnam Jangseong Police Station (Chief Bae Seung-gwan) announced on the 25th that it recently held a military-police cooperation working meeting at the Army Investigation Unit office within Sangmu Base to facilitate police investigative authority intervention in cases of military sexual crimes, following the amendment of the Military Court Act.

The meeting was attended by military officials including the commander of the 7th Metropolitan Investigation Unit, the chief of the 71st District Investigation Team, the head of the Investigation Guidance and Operations Division, the head of the Review Division, and the investigation team leader.

They also discussed actual military crime (unnatural death and sexual violence) responses between the military and police, including opinions on access to military facilities during unnatural death and sexual violence incidents, initial response measures by dispatched police officers, and cooperation in securing evidence.

Through this meeting, Jangseong Police decided to designate military-police liaison officers in advance so that when a 112 emergency call is received, the hotline-connected military liaison officer will be notified of the local police and relevant unit dispatch to ensure prompt on-site response cooperation.

Police officers dispatched to the scene are required to carry their official identification and comply with vehicle and identity verification procedures.

Additionally, the names of educational institutions and units within Sangmu Base were shared with the provincial police situation room to ensure accurate reporting locations are directed in the event of military crimes.

A Jangseong Police official stated, “Considering that the police investigative authority intervention in military crimes (unnatural death and sexual violence) is in its early stages, we plan to receive active cooperation from the military in police initial response and investigation through continuous working meetings with military officials.”
