Emphasizing the Need for 'Uninterrupted Development of Gyeongju'
On the 20th, Joo Nak-young, the mayor of Gyeongju City, met with Kim Wan-seop, the Budget Office Director of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, to request the inclusion of national funding for key pending projects that Gyeongju City is pursuing with utmost determination.

On this day, Mayor Ju explained to Director Kim, “For the successful implementation of the national strategy aiming for carbon neutrality by 2050, it is necessary to establish a national-level institution.”
He also emphasized the necessity of expanding National Road 6 to six lanes between Oedong and Ulsan to facilitate smooth industrial logistics transport and promote balanced regional development.
Gyeongju City stated, “A total of KRW 632.7 billion in national funding is required for 108 projects including ▲Millennium Silla Royal Capital Digital [Metaverse] Restoration (KRW 21 billion) ▲Restoration and Maintenance of Core Silla Royal Capital Relics (KRW 17.5 billion) ▲Creation of SMR Specialized National Industrial Complex (KRW 300 million) ▲Development of Gampho Marine Leisure Complex linked to SMR Complex (KRW 2 billion) ▲Construction of 4-lane National Road between Nongsu and Oedong (KRW 40 billion) ▲Construction of National Road between Yangnam and Gampho 1 (KRW 10 billion) ▲Construction of Gangdong to Angang Road (KRW 5 billion),” and requested active budget support from the government.
Director Kim Wan-seop said, “Considering the uniqueness of Gyeongju as a city centered on historical and cultural tourism, we will actively review these during the deliberation process.”
After the meeting with Director Kim, Mayor Ju Nak-young visited the Budget General Deliberation Officer and Economic Budget Deliberation Officer at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, explaining the major pending projects to the respective officers in charge of each project field.

This year’s government budget proposal will be finally submitted to the National Assembly by September 2 after deliberations by each sector of the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Cabinet meeting. The submitted proposal will be finalized in early December after going through the National Assembly’s standing committees, the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, and plenary session approval.
