'2022 Eulji Exercise' Nationwide to be Conducted from Next Month 22 to 25
Meeting of National Control Department Heads Chaired by the Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced on the 20th that the Eulji Exercise will be conducted nationwide for 3 nights and 4 days from August 22 to 25.
This year marks the 54th Eulji Exercise. In the past, the exercise was scaled down as government efforts were focused on responding to the COVID-19 situation, but this year it will be conducted with the goal of comprehensively assessing national crisis management and all-out war response capabilities. Prior to conducting the Eulji Exercise, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety held the ‘2022 Eulji Exercise National Control Headquarters Chiefs Meeting’ chaired by the Minister of the Interior and Safety on the same day to disseminate this year’s implementation direction and control guidelines.
The main contents of the Eulji Exercise announced at this meeting include that public officials will be subject to sudden emergency mobilization to cultivate their wartime mission performance capabilities, and departments (sections) will actually organize wartime units assuming wartime situations to verify individual wartime mission cards and duties related to war execution organizations.
In addition, to enable mutual cross-verification and supplementation between actual military situations and the national emergency preparedness plan, the South Korea-U.S. joint exercise and government exercise will be linked and conducted, and integrated situational exercises between central and local administrative agencies will be conducted to address complex situations in actual war scenarios. Furthermore, reflecting recent North Korean missile launch threats and terrorism patterns, integrated emergency recovery procedure training involving civilians, government, military, and police will be conducted to prepare for destruction of facilities such as buildings, electrical communications, and water supply. Cyber terrorism and Global Positioning System (GPS) signal jamming response drills will also be carried out.
