Gyeonggi-do Launches Intensive Crackdown on 6,000 Youth Harmful Businesses During Summer Vacation Season
[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Province will intensively crack down on more than 6,000 youth-harmful establishments such as karaoke bars and entertainment bars within the province from the 25th of this month to the 19th of next month to prevent youth delinquency during the summer vacation season.
This crackdown aims to preemptively block youth delinquency such as drinking near vacation spots and cohabitation with the opposite sex during the summer break.
During this period, the province will conduct joint crackdowns involving city and county offices, police stations, and youth harmful environment monitoring teams from both the public and private sectors.
The main crackdown targets include ▲ condoning or aiding youth cohabitation with the opposite sex ▲ drinking and smoking in restaurants, karaoke rooms, etc. ▲ proxy purchasing of alcohol and cigarettes ▲ selling alcohol, cigarettes, and youth-harmful substances ▲ distributing obscene flyers such as those soliciting prostitution.
The province will especially focus on cracking down on some room cafes that most youths do not recognize as 'establishments prohibited for youth entry and employment.'
Unlike general room cafes, those with enclosed spaces including restrooms and beds are designated and announced as 'establishments prohibited for youth entry and employment' under the Youth Protection Act.
These room cafes are required to attach 'establishments prohibited for youth entry and employment' stickers on their entrances, but some businesses operate without stickers to attract customers.
The joint crackdown team will mainly conduct patrols for guidance, but violating establishments will be punished according to relevant laws through the police.
