In particular, recently, the ‘Gwangju complex shopping mall’ has even been searchable on popular navigation and map apps, prompting citizens to voice their demand for accurate information.
The Gwangju complex shopping mall has long been a hot topic in the region, to the extent that people say it is one of the ‘things only missing in Gwangju.’
Past mayors of Gwangju have consistently shown interest in attracting a complex shopping mall, but have repeatedly failed due to opposition from civic groups. However, during the last presidential election, the People Power Party mentioned the Gwangju complex shopping mall as a pledge for Honam development, accelerating the momentum.
At that time, People Power Party candidate Yoon Seok-yeol said, “There are many complex shopping malls anywhere in the metropolitan area or nationwide, so is it reasonable that Gwangju, a metropolitan city, is the only place without one?” and “Gwangju citizens sometimes have to travel far for shopping, but the Democratic Party has only opposed the attraction.”
The attraction of the Gwangju complex shopping mall had been pursued by Gwangju Shinsegae and Lotte Department Store Gwangju, but recently Hyundai has joined, turning it into a three-way competition. Hyundai is aggressively aiming to attract ‘The Hyundai Gwangju’ to the former Jeonnam and Ilsin Textile site.
So far, nothing has been decided regarding the complex shopping mall, but it is expected that a conclusion will be reached within this year.
As this issue rapidly rises as a hot topic in the region, various incorrect information is circulating, and citizens are complaining about what to believe.
In particular, recently, the ‘Gwangju complex shopping mall’ was searchable on a navigation and map app operated by a major corporation.
In this app, it was searched with a specific location along with the term ‘The Hyundai Gwangju (planned).’ Citizens who saw this expressed confusion, as if it were already confirmed.
Citizen Kim (59) said, “It looks as if Hyundai’s entry is confirmed,” and “With various inaccurate information rampant, citizens are only confused.”
This case was confirmed to be a mistake by the company.
The app has a system called ‘Place Registration Report,’ and a registration report was submitted along with a specific news article, and there was an error during the verification process, according to the operator’s explanation.
