Over 50 Domestic Companies with Market Cap of 1 Trillion Won or More Decrease
[Asia Economy Reporter Ji Yeon-jin] This year, the number of listed companies with a market capitalization of over 1 trillion won in the domestic stock market has decreased by more than 50.
According to the Korea Exchange on the 17th, as of the 15th of this month, there are a total of 232 listed companies with a market capitalization of over 1 trillion won, down 56 from the end of last year. The number of listed companies on the KOSPI market decreased from 217 to 191, and those on the KOSDAQ market decreased from 71 to 41.
The domestic stock market showed a sharp decline due to a vicious cycle caused by inflation intensifying as liquidity released by various countries in response to COVID-19 worsened inflation, followed by interest rate hikes by major central banks, and the global supply shortage aggravated by the Ukraine war stimulating inflation.
On the 15th of this month, the KOSPI closed at 2,330.98, down 22.13% since the beginning of the year. The KOSDAQ closed at 762.39, falling 25.84% during the same period. Companies excluded from the 1 trillion won club this year include HDC Hyundai Development Company, SK Gas, Lotte Tour Development, Hana Tour, and Hanwha Investment & Securities.
