Bcome is a compound word combining the ‘B’ from Busan and ‘com’ from competition.
The ‘Bcome Competition’ has been held annually since 2020 to gather architectural ideas addressing Busan’s current issues and to discover emerging architects. Last year, the competition was held under the theme of ‘15-minute city,’ attracting 68 teams from 15 countries.
This year’s competition invites international ideas on the design of national pavilions for the 2030 Busan World Expo, which the city is actively pursuing to host. Participants, regardless of their nationality, can select any country they wish and propose a design for that country’s pavilion reflecting its unique characteristics and the 2030 Busan World Expo theme, ‘The Great Transformation of the World, Navigating Toward a Better Future.’
Anyone interested, including domestic and international architecture experts, can participate in this competition by registering through the competition website by August 12. Registered participants must submit their works between September 19 and 23.
The winning entries will be judged in September and announced on October 4. One first-place winner will receive a prize of 10 million KRW, one second-place winner 5 million KRW, and five third-place winners 1 million KRW each.
The winning works will be exhibited at the architecture exhibition hall inside Shinsegae Department Store Centum City during the 2022 Busan Architecture Festival (October 26?30) and will later be used to promote the bid for the 2030 Busan World Expo. Detailed competition guidelines can be found on the competition website.
