Ku Ja-eun, Chairman of LS Group, urged executives to definitely discover opportunities hidden in the Bae-Jeon-Ban sectors and announced plans to balance the ratio of existing and new businesses to 5 to 5 by 2030.
According to the industry on the 14th, Chairman Ku delivered a keynote speech titled "Why Now? What’s Next?" for about 20 minutes to around 300 key executives and team leaders at the LS Executive Seminar held earlier this month at the LS Tower auditorium in Anyang, Gyeonggi Province.
The LS Executive Seminar has been held three times a year since the holding company was launched in 2008 to share the latest management trends with group leaders. Until now, it was conducted by external lecturers, but this time Chairman Ku voluntarily took the stage to deliver a special message to the group leaders.
In his special lecture, Chairman Ku presented his usual reflections and requests on "why now is a time of opportunity for LS Group" and "how leaders, including himself, should act going forward," combining them with lyrics from a Disney movie theme song in a presentation format. He emphasized, "The unprecedented climate crisis and the global trend toward carbon neutrality will accelerate the electrification era, and this period of great change is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for LS. In this era, LS must find hidden opportunities in materials and components within the industrial ecosystem led by battery, electric vehicles, and semiconductors, that is, Bae-Jeon-Ban."
He continued, "To navigate the difficult and uncertain journey of finding these hidden opportunities, I will achieve this by completing 'ambidextrous management.' We will optimize existing businesses through operational system innovation and data management, while on the other hand, establish an agile management system that allows us to boldly engage in new businesses without fear."
Chairman Ku stated, "Currently, LS resembles a stable business structure like safe land, reluctant to challenge new territories," adding, "We will fearlessly embark on uncharted journeys and achieve a 5 to 5 balance between existing and new businesses by 2030."
He also said, "Interviews with current and former employees reveal a strong desire for 'new challenges and growth opportunities,' which is a future fully achievable if the leaders here lead well. As the group chairman, I will take the lead first, so let us together make LS a passionate company full of great growth opportunities."
Meanwhile, upon his inauguration, Chairman Ku emphasized, "Through ambidextrous management, we will maximize synergy between existing core businesses and future new businesses," and "In the electrification era, we will provide customers with unprecedented differentiated experiences and values to leap forward as a future comprehensive energy solution company." To practice this management philosophy and oversee group businesses, he has been conducting on-site management by visiting 14 subsidiaries and sub-subsidiaries across the Chungcheong, Gyeongsang, and Jeolla regions nationwide over three months from May to July.
