Jump from Apartment Rooftop
Victim Undergoing Surgery and Recovering
[Asia Economy Kim Gun-chan, Intern Reporter] In Chuncheon, Gangwon Province, a teenage high school student wielded a weapon against an elementary school student and then died by suicide.
A (17) wielded a weapon at an elementary school student in an elevator of an apartment complex around 7 p.m. on the 12th, seriously injuring the child.
A fled to the rooftop of another apartment about 3 km away from the crime scene.
The police, tracking A based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, responded to a joint request from the fire department about "a person attempting suicide on an apartment rooftop" and arrived at the scene.
After analyzing evidence at the scene, A was identified as the suspect in the weapon incident.
A's father attempted to persuade him, but according to the police, A jumped before the fire department could set up an air mattress.
It was previously reported that A had recently consulted with a school counselor.
The police are investigating A's whereabouts and psychological state before and after the incident through people around him, and plan to continue related investigations including forensic analysis of his mobile phone and computer.
However, since A has died and the victim is seriously injured and undergoing surgery and recovery, it is expected to take some time before the exact motive for the crime is revealed.
