KIPO Establishes and Launches 'Idea Economy Innovation Team' to Respond to Changes in Technology Innovation Environment
[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) will establish and operate the ‘Idea Economy Innovation Team’ by integrating and converting two venture-type divisions (Patent Commercialization Officer, Idea Transaction Officer).
KIPO announced on the 12th that it will promulgate and enforce the ‘Partial Amendment Ordinance of the Enforcement Rules of the Organization of KIPO and Its Affiliated Institutions’ based on this plan.
The Idea Economy Innovation Team is newly established to ensure consistency in policy promotion so that creative ideas from the public can lead to value-added creation for companies. The amendment ordinance will take effect from the 13th.
Until now, KIPO has focused on protecting registered rights such as patents, utility models, trademarks, and designs. However, going forward, it plans to proactively strengthen the rights and commercialization of creative ideas by protecting public ideas that have not yet been registered to solve companies’ immediate challenges.
Based on this, the newly established Idea Economy Innovation Team will link tasks such as idea transactions and commercialization of private and public intellectual property, and play a role in actively responding to changes in ideas and creative technological innovation by establishing an idea protection system.
Previously, KIPO launched the idea transaction platform ‘Idea-ro’ in March last year and has achieved transactions worth 60 million won to date.
KIPO emphasizes that idea transactions are noteworthy because small ideas from the public can serve as a foundation for innovation in public institutions and private companies.
