KSOI "President Yoon's Approval Rating Drops Again... Positive Evaluation 34.5%, Negative Evaluation 60.8%"
Positive-Negative Evaluation Gap Expands from -0.6 Percentage Points to -9.1 Percentage Points to -26.3 Percentage Points
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] President Yoon Seok-yeol's approval rating for his administration has plummeted once again. Negative evaluations outpaced positive ones by 26.3 percentage points, revealing widespread dissatisfaction with overall government operations.
The Korea Society Opinion Institute (KSOI), commissioned by TBS, conducted a public opinion survey over two days from June 8 to 9, targeting 1,002 adults aged 18 and older nationwide. The results showed a 34.5% positive evaluation and a 60.8% negative evaluation of the government's performance. Compared to last week's survey, positive evaluations dropped by 8.3 percentage points, while negative evaluations rose by 8.9 percentage points.
KSOI analyzed, "Considering that in the pre-local election survey (published June 1), positive evaluations of President Yoon's administration exceeded negative evaluations by 20.2 percentage points, this represents a remarkable change."
Looking at the details, 18.2% of respondents said the government is doing very well, 16.2% said it is doing generally well, 12.2% said it is doing generally poorly, 48.6% said it is doing very poorly, and 4.7% were unsure.
The so-called dead cross phenomenon, where negative evaluations surpass positive ones regarding President Yoon's administration, has been observed in KSOI-TBS surveys for three weeks now. However, the gap between positive and negative evaluations has widened from -0.6 percentage points to -9.1 percentage points, and now to -26.3 percentage points.
Regarding controversies over government personnel failures, 60.3% responded that there were "personnel failures," more than twice the 27.8% who said "it cannot be considered a personnel failure compared to previous administrations."
On the issue of controversies arising from Q&A sessions with reporters during morning arrivals, 47.3% said it was "because answers were given without preparation," the most common response. This was followed by 24.2% attributing it to "the president's informal and candid style," 14.0% citing "actual internal communication confusion over major policies or personnel appointments," and 6.3% blaming "insufficient support from aides."
Regarding a civilian accompanying the president on an overseas trip, 66.5% responded that it was inappropriate. Meanwhile, 26.2% believed there was no problem since proper procedures were followed.
