As early as the 11th, it may introduce the members of the Prosecutor General Candidate Recommendation Committee (Recommendation Committee) and explain the subsequent schedule. A variable factor is Minister of Justice Han Dong-hoon's working from home. Minister Han went on a 7-night, 8-day business trip to Washington DC and New York, USA, starting on the 29th of last month, returned on the 7th, and tested positive for COVID-19. He must work in isolation at home until the 13th. The Ministry of Justice is reportedly considering whether to announce the composition of the Recommendation Committee on the 14th, when Minister Han returns to the office.
According to the legal community on the 10th, the Ministry of Justice has already completed the composition of the Recommendation Committee. The committee consists of a total of nine members: five ex officio members including the Director of the Ministry of Justice's Prosecutor's Office, the Deputy Director of the Court Administration Office, the President of the Korean Bar Association, the President of the Korean Law Professors Association, and the Chairman of the Law School Council, as well as four non-ex officio members. The chairperson is usually a former Minister of Justice or Prosecutor General participating as a non-ex officio member.
After the composition of the Recommendation Committee is announced, the Ministry of Justice will accept recommendations for the next Prosecutor General candidates from the public for one week. The Ministry will then verify the recommended candidates and select about ten candidates to submit to the Recommendation Committee. The committee will recommend three or more candidates to the Minister of Justice. The Minister will propose one final candidate to the President.
