According to Seoul and other local governments, from midnight to 9 PM on the same day, 19,842 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19 across 17 cities and provinces nationwide.
Among them, 11,506 cases (58%) were reported in the metropolitan area, and 8,336 cases (42%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, the numbers were as follows: Gyeonggi 5,343, Seoul 5,244, Gyeongnam 1,064, Incheon 919, Busan 917, Gyeongbuk 903, Chungnam 786, Ulsan 647, Jeonbuk 576, Chungbuk 562, Daejeon 524, Jeju 483, Daegu 465, Gangwon 463, Jeonnam 397, Gwangju 370, and Sejong 179.
The number of confirmed cases by 9 PM on this day is 2.1 times higher compared to 9,521 cases recorded at the same time last Saturday, the 2nd. Compared to two weeks ago on the 25th of last month (5,893 cases), it is a staggering 3.4 times higher.
The daily new confirmed case multiplier compared to one week ago was 1.83 times on the 5th, 1.85 times on the 6th, 1.93 times on the 7th, 2.0 times on the 8th, and 1.89 times on the 9th. As the summer vacation season is in full swing, COVID-19 appears to be entering a resurgence phase.
