Gangjin-gun, All-Out Effort to Prevent Heatwave Damage
Operation of Water Sprinkler Trucks and Heat Relief Shelters Centered Around Gangjin-eup Area
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, is making all-out efforts to prevent heatwave damage by operating water sprinklers and heatwave shelters in the area as the heatwave is expected to prolong.
Since the first heatwave advisory was issued on the 30th of last month, the county has been focusing on operating water sprinklers from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in areas with high pedestrian traffic, mainly around Gangjin-eup, from the 6th of this month until the heatwave advisory is lifted. They plan to reduce radiant heat from the roads and remove re-scattered dust.
In addition, a heatwave T/F team has been formed and the disaster situation room is being operated around the clock to respond to heat-related damage. Currently, 301 indoor heatwave shelters and 34 outdoor heatwave shelters are being operated in the area, and monitoring is being strengthened in vulnerable sectors such as agriculture, livestock, and fisheries to make every effort to prevent heatwave damage.
Gang Jin-won, the mayor of Gangjin-gun, said, “We will actively promote national action guidelines for heatwave preparedness and prepare measures so that residents can live in a comfortable environment during the hot summer,” adding, “We will also minimize inconvenience to residents such as traffic flow disruption during road watering.”
