"Support for Out-of-Home Youth Independence" KT&G Scholarship Foundation Conducts 'New Start Scholarship Program'
Signed MOU with Korea Youth Shelter Association
Delivered a total of 200 million KRW in scholarships to 100 youths
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] On the 8th, KT&G Scholarship Foundation announced that on the 7th, it signed a "New Start Scholarship Project Business Agreement" with the Korea Youth Shelter Association at "KT&G Sangsang Planet" in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, to support the independence of out-of-home youth.
Out-of-home youth refers to young people who have chosen survival-driven runaway due to lack of protection and support from their families. With the revision of the Youth Welfare Support Act last year, the legal term for youth who have left home was changed from the previous "runaway youth" to "out-of-home youth."
According to this business agreement, the Korea Youth Shelter Association will receive scholarship recipient recommendations from youth protection facilities nationwide. The KT&G Scholarship Foundation plans to select 100 scholarship students after reviewing the suitability of the recommended candidates and provide a total of 200 million KRW in scholarships to them in August.
The social enterprise "Tread & Groove," which was selected as an excellent team in the 5th session of KT&G's youth startup support program "Sangsang Startup Camp," will also participate in the "New Start Scholarship Project." "Tread & Groove" manufactures and sells eco-friendly upcycled shoes using discarded tires. They plan to deliver shoes worth a total of 3 million KRW to the scholarship students of the "New Start Scholarship Project."
