Japanese Famous Cosmetics Company Kose Product Packaging
Uses Lotte Chemical PCR 50% Applied PP Material
[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] Lotte Chemical's recycled plastic material, certified by the U.S. FDA (Food and Drug Administration), will be applied for the first time as a new product material by a famous Japanese cosmetics company.
Lotte Chemical announced on the 6th that recycled plastic PCR material with 50% content in PP material (recycled polypropylene) will be applied to the containers of Kose Cosmeport products, a Japanese cosmetics company, launching in August.
The PP material with 50% PCR content, launched in the second half of 2019, obtained U.S. FDA certification in 2020 as the first in Korea to be applicable for cosmetics and food containers. It is a high value-added product that has recorded about 40 times sales growth in the first half of this year compared to 2020, in about three years.
Lotte Chemical stated that through about a year of quality certification and sampling work, it passed the strict standards of the Japanese client and expanded its sales regions from China and Europe to Japan.
The PCR-PP material has been developed in grades containing 30% and 50% recycled plastic raw materials and is supplied according to customer requests. Meanwhile, the global cosmetics industry at home and abroad is promoting policies to expand the use of cosmetics packaging made from recycled or recycled plastic raw materials up to 100% by 2025, and to increase products made from recycled materials up to 50%. In particular, about 60% of domestic cosmetics containers are estimated to be made of plastic materials, of which about 30% are PP materials.
Lotte Chemical is expanding the rapid supply of various recycled plastic materials (PCR-PP, rPET, rPP, rABS, rPC, etc.) along with proactive technology development in preparation for global plastic usage regulations and increasing sustainable material demand from clients, and is promoting a company-wide project to establish a plastic circular economy system.
