View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Kyung-jun] Han Dong-hoon, Minister of Justice, who is on a business trip to the United States, met with officials from the U.S. Department of Justice to discuss 'global cryptocurrency-related crimes' and agreed to strengthen cooperation.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 1st, Minister Han visited the U.S. Department of Justice in Washington DC on the 30th of last month (local time) and held meetings with Kenneth Polite, Deputy Attorney General and Director of the Criminal Division; Jonathan Kanter, Director of the Antitrust Division; and Choi Eun-young, Director of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team (NCET), who is of Korean descent.
The two countries agreed to enhance practical cooperation and collaboration against ▲ global cryptocurrency crimes ▲ ransomware crimes (where hackers encrypt victims' information and demand money to decrypt it) ▲ antitrust crimes, among others.
Additionally, Minister Han will visit the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York on the 5th to meet with the Chief Legal Counsel and the head of the Securities and Financial Crimes Unit. After meeting with current and former heads of the Securities and Financial Crimes Unit, Minister Han will visit the United Nations (UN) headquarters to hold discussions with the Deputy Secretary-General and Chief of the Office of Internal Oversight Services, as well as the President of the Economic and Social Council.
On the 29th of last month, Minister Han visited the World Bank and met with the Vice President and General Counsel, as well as the Vice President and Chief Auditor, and paid tribute at the Korean War Veterans Memorial. On the following day, the 30th, he visited the FBI and met with Christopher Wray, FBI Director, to hear opinions on the FBI's personnel vetting system. On the same day, he also visited the Department of Justice to meet with the Deputy Attorney General and Director of the Criminal Division, the Deputy Attorney General and Director of the Antitrust Division, the head of the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, and the Director of the International Legal Affairs Office.

Minister Han's current trip was planned to learn from advanced systems such as the FBI and the UN and to meet key personnel to gather insights. Before departure, Minister Han told reporters that it was "a business trip to establish routine cooperation."
