KOTRA Hosts Korean Youth Job Fair in Queensland, Australia
10 Employers + About 50 Korean Youth Attendees
Focus on Coal, LNG Resources, Agriculture, Livestock, and Tourism Sectors
[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] KOTRA announced on the 30th that it held a job fair in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.
KOTRA co-hosted the event with the Brisbane branch office of the Korean Consulate, which was established locally on the 24th. This was the first offline event since 2019.
The event was attended by 10 local employers in Queensland and about 50 Korean youths currently seeking jobs locally. The morning job seminar session introduced updates on visas, safety laws, job search, and employment strategies. The afternoon session was conducted as one-on-one job interviews.
Queensland's area is 17 times that of Korea. It is a major resource and agricultural, livestock, and tourism hub, including coal and liquefied natural gas (LNG). About 30,000 Koreans live there, which is the second largest number after New South Wales, where Sydney is located. Recently, as relations between the two countries have developed, Korean companies' entry into the region has become active.
Major Korean companies, including Company A, which is participating in a large-scale electric vehicle supply bid promoted by the Queensland state government, as well as Australian companies in local distribution, IT, legal, and accounting sectors, participated.
There is a continuing labor shortage across Australia. In April, Australia's unemployment rate was 3.9%, surpassing full employment to a state of 'labor shortage.' The labor shortage is relatively severe in major cities such as Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane. In response, the Australian government has introduced measures such as relaxing employment conditions for working holiday visas and student visas, but the situation has not improved much.

Kim Byungho, head of KOTRA Sydney Trade Center, said, "We hope this event will help alleviate the local labor shortage," and added, "We will continue to support Korean youths' employment in Australia through the job fairs to be held in Sydney in August, Melbourne in September, and the second Queensland job event scheduled for November."
