Selected for Public Project, 300 Million Invested to Create Villages for Stable Settlement of Youth

[Wando＝Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyungpil] On the 23rd, Wando-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that the youth group ‘Wan-mang-jin-chang’ proposed ‘Origari Village,’ which was selected for the 2022 Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation Contest.

The ‘Jeonnam-style Youth Village Creation,’ starting for the first time this year, is a project that supports 300 million KRW in funding for youth to directly create spaces and programs that can revitalize the region by linking with local specialized industries.

Among 10 youth groups from 6 cities and counties in Jeonnam, 8 groups selected through document screening underwent on-site and presentation evaluations, and finally 5 groups were chosen.

The term Origari in Origari Village proposed by Wan-mang-jin-chang represents the youth who have many worries and cannot easily decide whether to come to or leave Wando. It carries the meaning of creating an environment where youth can settle in Wando by operating various programs.

Starting next month, centered on Yongam-ri, projects such as ‘Geogi-nugu-eopso’ (guesthouse operation, matchmaking empty houses, etc.) for settling out-of-town youth, and ‘Yeogi-uri-itso’ (Yagjeomppang props shop, Bojaegi Market, Zelkova Tree Concert) to support youth culture will be carried out.

A county official said, “Through this project, we hope that youth will take the lead in connecting the region and youth and settle down stably. We will spare no support so that youth can re-examine the value of Wando and create a youth village where they want to live.”

Meanwhile, Wan-mang-jin-chang is a youth group consisting of five young people who love Wando. It was selected in March for the ‘Youth Community Revitalization Project’ hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, and plans active activities such as the ‘8844 (Sell if you want to sell, buy if you want to buy) Flea Market’ on the 2nd of next month.
