[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] POSCO is conducting a metaverse visit education program called ‘School-Verse’ for elementary school students nationwide in collaboration with EBS (Korea Educational Broadcasting System).

On the 20th, the two companies held a launch ceremony at the EBS headquarters in Ilsan, Gyeonggi Province, attended by POSCO CEO Jeong Tak and EBS President Kim Yu-yeol, among others.

The first session will be held over two days from the 23rd to the 24th of this month at Cheongju Namseong Elementary School, targeting about 200 students, and is scheduled to be conducted at more than five elementary schools in regions including Chungcheong, Gangwon, and Gyeonggi through the second half of this year.

POSCO CEO Jeong Tak said, "POSCO declared ‘Corporate Citizenship for Together and Prosperity’ as its management philosophy in July 2018 and has been leading the practice of ESG management. In continuation of these efforts, I hope that POSCO and EBS will strengthen close cooperation based on the strengths and know-how of each company through programs like School-Verse."

POSCO and EBS signed a business agreement in October last year for ‘ESG management practice and future education environment establishment,’ and have been exploring ways to combine 165 experiential educational contents produced by EBS as a focus of its future education business with POSCO’s eco-friendly steel technology.

For the production of the mobile education experience center ‘School-Verse,’ POSCO applied its proprietary ‘INNOVILT’ structural material solution.

In particular, it focused on eco-friendly features by applying POSCO’s unique ‘Smart Housing’ modular technology widely used in the recent Green Smart School project, high-corrosion-resistant ‘POSMAC’ interior and exterior materials, and building-integrated color solar power technology jointly developed with RIST (Pohang Institute of Industrial Science and Technology).

The experience center features a design reminiscent of a spaceship on a blue background, the symbolic color of both companies, and uses a door opening method to enhance children’s interest.

Meanwhile, in addition to EBS’s experiential educational content, the ‘School-Verse’ education will actively utilize the ‘Lightning Man and Eco-friendly Lightning Power’ application jointly developed by POSCO and EBS last April to educate on the eco-friendliness of steel materials and the importance of resource recycling.
