With the party’s Ethics Committee review scheduled for this week, rumors are circulating that the internal conflict initiated by Lee is intensifying.
On the 20th, at a public session of the People Power Party Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly, Lee and Bae engaged in a heated argument over the closed Supreme Council meeting. Lee stated that some of the discussions from the closed meeting were continuously leaked and declared that he would not discuss current issues in closed meetings under his authority as chairperson. Bae immediately opposed this.
During the meeting, Lee said, "There are even reports that leaks increase when certain individuals attend, so I can no longer overlook the situation." In response, Bae questioned, "You are trying to abolish the proper meeting functions and our authority within the Supreme Council by using your chairperson’s authority to stop discussing current issues in closed meetings. The monitoring has been inadequate so far, and now you are blaming others for what you yourself have said to the media." Lee retorted, "Shall we try to monitor it once?" As their voices grew louder, Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, intervened and immediately switched the session to a closed meeting. However, Lee left the meeting room less than five minutes after the closed session began. It is reported that Lee only completed the vote on the agenda item regarding the appointment of the International Committee Chair before leaving. Senior spokesperson Heo Eun-ah explained the situation, saying, "It seems that the discussions held during the Supreme Council meeting were continuously leaked by a specific individual. He probably thought that if this continued, discussing current issues would become meaningless. To cool down the heated situation, he judged that it would be better to temporarily suspend closed discussions on current issues."

View original imageThe root of the conflict between the two lies in the controversy over the Innovation Committee and Supreme Council appointments. Recently, Bae’s remarks made during closed meetings have frequently been disclosed to the media, which has unsettled Lee. For example, Bae referred to the Innovation Committee as a ‘petty private organization’ during a closed meeting on the 13th, and when Lee opposed the appointment of Supreme Council members recommended by Assemblyman Ahn Cheol-soo again, Bae criticized him as ‘petty.’ These comments were recently reported in the media without filtering. In particular, Lee reportedly became angry over the term ‘petty,’ saying it was a "critical issue regarding the leadership structure."
After the meeting, Bae criticized Lee’s message, saying it was "a statement that could be misunderstood as blaming someone." Bae said, "It’s not about abolishing closed meetings, but about tightening internal discipline once. He (Lee) himself has often appeared in the media and on YouTube."
