The prosecution charged Barker with multiple hate crimes, including third-degree assault. Barker, from Merritt Island, Florida, is accused of spraying pepper spray on four Asian women and assaulting three of them on the evening of the 11th in Manhattan's Meatpacking District. At the time, he shouted verbal abuse such as "Go back to your hometown." Barker was later arrested following a tip from a witness who recognized his face.
