Seoul City, Mapo-gu, HSBC Bank, and Life Forest Collaborate to Create Guryeong Neighborhood Park Urban Forest
142 Zelkova Trees and 6,950 Herbaceous Plants Planted Along the Walking Trail at Guryong Neighborhood Park
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] On the 20th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that it has created an urban forest in Guryong Neighborhood Park in cooperation with Mapo-gu, HSBC (Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation), and Life Forest to respond to the climate crisis by improving urban air quality and reducing the heat island effect.
To create an urban forest along a 200m section of a major route lacking shade, a public-private partnership project began field surveys in April, and by June, 142 trees of two species including Zelkova and 6,950 herbaceous plants were planted, providing a pleasant walking and resting space.
The Urban Forest Project with HSBC aims to contribute to improving urban air quality, reducing the heat island effect, and carbon offset through the natural resilience of forests, and to enhance citizens' awareness of urban forest conservation, thereby promoting a green culture. The project is planned to continue until 2023.
