Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture Hosts 'Seoul Arts School, Today'... 15 Free Programs
[Asia Economy Reporter Seomideum] The Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture is launching a new program called ‘Seoul Arts School, Today,’ which explores and learns about the world through art. Starting with a pre-event held from the 24th to the 25th, 15 programs will be held until November at the Seoul Arts Education Center (Yongsan), Seoseoul Arts Education Center (Yangcheon), Daehakro Center (Jongno), and Seoul Dance Center (Seodaemun).
The pre-event open class, ‘Art that Becomes Learning,’ will take place on the 24th and 25th at the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture Daehakro Center and Seoul Arts Education Center. The artist talk will be divided into two parts: Part 1, ‘How Does Art Meet Our Lives?’ and Part 2, ‘Our Art, Our Creation, How Does It Become Art?’ It will be held at the Emotion Library on the first floor of the Yongsan Seoul Arts Education Center, led by Professor Jeong Woncheol, a former professor of printmaking at Chugye University for the Arts. In Part 1, the discussion will include cartoonist Jang Chahyunshil, who is the mother of writer Jeong Eunhye?who recently gained attention for her role in the drama ‘Our Blues’?and who created works such as ‘Ddorine’s House’ and ‘Between,’ along with writer and filmmaker Jo Gihyeon, author of books like ‘I Became My Father’s Father’ and ‘Bright Blue Care,’ which document young people caring for sick family members. They will explore how artistic work has influenced their personal lives.
In Part 2, under the theme ‘Our Art, Our Creation, How Does It Become Art?,’ four artists?I Se-seung, Lee Juwon, Jeon Yujin, and Ha Sojeong?will discuss what ‘art as learning’ means today, why we need to learn art, and the significance and value of art education that we should pursue in the future.
From July to November, the main program will be held. At the Seoul Arts Education Center, artist Shin Hyunji, who has worked as a Teaching Artist (TA), will lead a program titled ‘The World Revisited (tentative),’ which visualizes novel works. Poet Lee Soyeon will conduct a poetry creation program called ‘1+1=Window (tentative)’ for middle-aged adults in their 50s and 60s experiencing life transitions. Jeon Yujin, selected for the Convergent Arts Creation Support Project, will present a convergent art education program called ‘Latent Energy,’ which is based on electrical energy. Additionally, various art education activities that help participants manage their emotions through art will continue until November at the ‘Emotion Library’ of the Seoul Arts Education Center.
At the Seoseoul Arts Education Center, the program ‘Today’s Talchum (Mask Dance)’ by ‘Cheonhajeil Tal Workshop,’ which creates performances with contemporary audiences based on the principles and spirit of traditional mask dance, will be held in July. From August to October, woodcarving workshops titled ‘A Small Rest for Me, Making Wooden Life (tentative)’ by artist Ha Sojeong, who was selected for the First Art Support Project in 2019, will take place.
At the Seoul Dance Center, independent choreographer, performance director, and dance educator Lee Se-seung will conduct a dance workshop called ‘Yongyong Chugessji (tentative)’ from August to September, where citizens can understand contemporary dance art and awaken their bodily senses.
