This marks the third time that Mrs. Kim has visited former first ladies, following visits to Kim Yoon-ok, wife of former President Lee Myung-bak, and Kwon Yang-sook, wife of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun.
A Presidential Office official said at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office in the afternoon, "It was originally planned that she would visit each former president's wife one by one to greet them and seek their advice."
The official added that Presidential Office staff will accompany Mrs. Kim on the visit. "She had planned to go quietly and privately, so the number of accompanying personnel was minimized and preparations were made without notifying anyone. However, it was unintentionally revealed, so we had to announce it," the official explained.
On the 13th, Mrs. Kim visited the grave of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun in Bongha Village, Gimhae, Gyeongnam Province, and paid a visit to Kwon Yang-sook. At that time, Mrs. Kim was accompanied by her acquaintance, Professor Kim from Chungnam National University, and former employees of Cobana Contents, which sparked controversy over the private nature of the activity. The Presidential Office explained that the Cobana employees recently resigned and were recently hired as Presidential Office staff.
Regarding Mrs. Kim’s visit to Mrs. Lee this time, when reporters pointed out that it contrasts sharply with the public sentiment and President Yoon’s attendance at the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement memorial ceremony, leading a majority of People Power Party lawmakers and the Cabinet, another official responded, "It is in the context of visiting former presidents’ wives."
