Gwangju Bank Prevents 3 Billion KRW Voice Phishing Damage in First Half of This Year
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Gwangju Bank announced on the 16th that on the 15th, together with the Financial Supervisory Service Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Gwangju Regional Headquarters, and NongHyup Bank Gwangju Business Headquarters, it conducted a street campaign to prevent voice phishing damage targeting citizens around Gwangju U-Square.
Gwangju Bank, the Financial Supervisory Service Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, and other local financial institutions have been continuously making efforts to reduce voice phishing damage through close cooperation with related organizations such as the National Police Agency.
As a result, according to the announcement by the Financial Supervisory Service Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, the number of voice phishing damage cases in the Gwangju area in the first quarter of 2022 was a total of 100 cases, a 56.3% decrease compared to 229 cases in the same period last year. However, there were 79 cases of high-value damage exceeding 10 million KRW, which continue to occur, and face-to-face extortion damage is also on the rise.
Accordingly, to prevent citizens from suffering damage due to voice phishing crimes and to raise awareness of the seriousness, a street campaign was held with the attendance of executives including Kim Tae-sung, head of the Financial Supervisory Service Gwangju-Jeonnam Branch, Jeong Chang-joo, vice president of Gwangju Bank, Go Seong-shin, head of the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation Gwangju Regional Headquarters, and Kim Seok-chan, head of NongHyup Bank Gwangju Business Headquarters. They distributed leaflets for voice phishing damage prevention and shared precautions and prevention measures with citizens.
