US and South Korea Foreign Ministers: "Firm Response to North Korean Nuclear Test... Pressure Until They Change Course"

On the 13th (local time), the foreign ministers of South Korea and the United States warned that North Korea may soon conduct a nuclear test and announced a swift and resolute response.
According to the State Department, Foreign Minister Park Jin and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken held talks in Washington DC on the same day and made this announcement at a press conference.
Secretary Blinken expressed concern about the possibility of North Korea's 7th nuclear test. He warned, "The United States is prepared for all emergencies and is ready to adjust appropriate short- and long-term military readiness postures."
He emphasized, "Our goal is simply a peaceful and stable region and world," adding, "We will continue to maintain pressure until North Korea changes its course." However, he also called for a diplomatic solution, stating, "We are open to dialogue with North Korea without preconditions."
Minister Park also assessed that North Korea has completed preparations for a nuclear test and only the decision remains. He stated, "We will respond firmly and strongly to any provocations by North Korea, including nuclear tests."

On the same day, Minister Park confirmed that South Korea and the U.S. decided to resume early operations of the Extended Deterrence Strategy Committee (EDSSCG). If necessary, the deployment of strategic assets will also be discussed within the committee. Additionally, he mentioned the need to normalize the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA) with Japan for joint responses to North Korea's threats.
