Chungnam Selected as 'Best in Forestry Sector' Institution in Government Joint Evaluation
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province was selected as the best institution in the ‘Joint Government Evaluation of Local Governments in the Forestry Sector’ organized by the Korea Forest Service, receiving the Korea Forest Service Commissioner Award and a prize of 18 million KRW.
According to the province on the 13th, the Korea Forest Service recently conducted a joint evaluation of 17 metropolitan cities and provinces nationwide on the implementation of eight detailed forestry projects carried out last year, including sustainable forest resource development.
In the evaluation, the province received high scores in seven indicators, including forest protection enforcement and restoration performance, sustainable forest resource development achievement rate, forest road facility performance rate, and forest fire prevention achievement rate, among quantitative and qualitative indicators, and was selected as the best institution.

In particular, the province was selected as an excellent case for the first time since the introduction of qualitative indicators by discovering cases themed on the popularization of wood life, such as the Hanok Village in Naepo New Town, Naepo Nature Playground, and Boryeong Wood Culture Experience Center.
This achievement was thanks to establishing and promoting a response strategy under the theme “From children to adults, starting a wise wood life carbon-neutral city.”
Lee Sang-chun, head of the Forestry Resources Division of the province, said, “The achievement of being selected as the best institution in the joint government evaluation was possible thanks to active communication and cooperation between the province and cities/counties,” adding, “The province will continue to strive to nurture and develop local forests as valuable resources.”
