Gangjin-gun Provides Safe Homes Through Love House Building Program
Deokdong Village Disabled Household No. 34 Love House Building Move-in Ceremony
[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Kim Yong-su] On the 8th, Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, completed the 34th Love House construction and held a warm housewarming ceremony for a disabled household in Gangjin-eup.
The ceremony was attended by Lee Seung-ok, Gangjin County Governor; Jeong Jong-heon, Distribution Team Leader of Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea; Kim Chang-seok, President of Gangjin Tamjin Rotary Club, and its members; as well as about 50 village residents to celebrate the move-in.
The beneficiary household, despite having significant physical disabilities, has lived diligently by participating in the disabled job project. They had lived in their previous home for over 60 years but faced eviction requests from the landlord, leaving them with nowhere to go.
Accordingly, in August last year, the county selected the household as a case management target and, together with Gangjin Tamjin Rotary, linked the Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea’s housing construction matching grant support project. They raised a total of 50 million KRW in project funds: 10 million KRW from Gangjin-gun, 25 million KRW from Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, 10 million KRW from Gangjin Tamjin Rotary Club, and 5 million KRW from Heo Ja-eun of the Honor Society, completing an 18-pyeong (approximately 59.5 square meters) Love House in Deokdong Village, Gangjin-eup.
The beneficiary expressed joy and gratitude, saying, “Thank you for gifting me a clean and cozy new home. Thanks to the overwhelming love from those around me, I can live in a good house. As long as my health permits, I will live sharing even small things like a single bean with my neighbors.”
Governor Lee Seung-ok said, “I deeply thank everyone who helped complete the 34th Love House. I ask that social and volunteer organizations, Jeonnam Community Chest of Korea, the Honor Society, and the public and private sectors continue to show great interest in the Love House construction project for vulnerable groups with poor housing conditions.”
Meanwhile, the ‘Love House Construction’ project, part of the public-private joint cooperation project to create a warm Gangjin, has been promoted since 2007. So far, 34 houses have been newly built and completed, and three households are currently in progress. Notably, during the 7th local government term, 21 houses, accounting for 56% of the total project volume, were newly constructed.
