President Yoon and Ruling Party Leadership Hold First Luncheon Meeting... Discuss National Issues
[Asia Economy Reporters Bomryeong Geum, Gimin Lee] President Yoon Seok-yeol will invite the leadership of the People Power Party to the presidential office on the 10th for a luncheon meeting.
At 12 noon that day, President Yoon will hold a luncheon with the ruling party leadership, including Party Leader Lee Jun-seok and Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong, at the Yongsan Presidential Office to discuss current national issues.
As President Yoon recently emphasized the need to actively reform regulations in the economy, industry, and education sectors to foster advanced industries such as semiconductors, it is expected that he will urge the ruling party to proceed with regulatory reform legislation. A presidential office official stated, "We will discuss general economic conditions and livelihood issues, but I think the president will emphasize building a smooth party-government relationship."
It is also anticipated that Leader Lee, who returned from Ukraine the day before, will brief President Yoon on the local situation. Leader Lee told reporters at Incheon Airport on his return, "I heard many voices in Ukraine expecting active participation befitting Korea's status," and added, "I will convey those requests well to the president."
However, President Yoon is expected to refrain from commenting on internal party conflicts such as the verbal dispute between Leader Lee and Assemblyman Jeong Jin-seok. On his way to work that day, he told reporters, "Politics is probably like that," and added, "The president is the head of state, not the head of the party, so it is appropriate to observe party matters."
Floor Leader Kwon Seong-dong also told reporters after the floor strategy meeting held at the National Assembly that day, "Since President Yoon has not had time to meet with the party and floor leadership since his inauguration, and the local elections are over, I understand that this boxed lunch luncheon was arranged as an opportunity to have a conversation and offer congratulations." When asked if there were many things to discuss with President Yoon regarding livelihood and price stabilization, Floor Leader Kwon replied, "I am organizing various things to report."
