KakaoPay Offline Payments Now Available in Singapore
No Need for Currency Exchange... Check Your Transactions in Real Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Kakao Pay payments will soon be available in Singapore as well.
Kakao Pay announced on the 9th that through a partnership with 'Alipay Plus,' Kakao Pay payments will be available at offline stores in Singapore. Alipay Plus is an online and offline payment and marketing solution provided by Ant Group.
Starting early next month, Kakao Pay payments will be accepted at Singapore's Changi International Airport, Lotte Duty Free, Shilla Duty Free, and ComfortDelGro taxis. At offline stores in Singapore displaying the Kakao Pay or Alipay Plus logos, users can present the QR code or barcode on the payment screen or scan the QR code posted at the store to make payments.
No separate currency exchange is required. All payment details can be checked in real-time through the Kakao Pay application (app) and KakaoTalk. Payment amounts are displayed not only in the local currency but also in Korean won. The number of payment merchants will continue to increase in the future.

Cha Jeong-ho, Head of Kakao Pay's Overseas Payment Business, said, "We started payments in Singapore for Kakao Pay users visiting overseas in the post-COVID era," adding, "We will actively expand cooperation so that payments can be made with Kakao Pay in more countries beyond Japan, Singapore, and Macao."
