[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 7th that it will recruit an additional 1,000 participants for the ‘Youth Mental Health Support Project’ until the 9th. Any Seoul resident youth aged 19 to 39 who is experiencing anxiety, depression, or lethargy can apply through the Youth Mongttang Information Center.
Currently, Seoul is conducting online self-assessments for the first group of 1,686 participants recruited in March this year, and based on the test results, one-on-one customized counseling is being provided. Approximately 30% of the counseling sessions have been completed so far.
Additionally, Seoul will officially begin counseling for 1,000 participants from other youth support projects led by the city, such as the Youth Allowance and Support for Reclusive Youth, who wish to be linked to mental health support starting at the end of this month. From May 20 to May 25, online self-assessments were conducted for youths participating in other youth support projects who expressed a desire to be connected to mental health support, and counselors will be assigned as soon as the test results are available.

Kim Cheol-hee, Director of the Seoul Future Youth Planning Division, stated, “As a result of the online self-assessment conducted for the first group recruited in March, 58% were classified as the general group, but 21% were identified as a high-risk group requiring immediate medical intervention. This shows that youth mental health management is extremely urgent.” He added, “We hope that youths facing mental health crises due to employment difficulties, workplace conflicts, and other issues will apply without hesitation and have the opportunity to take care of their mental health.”
