Firefighters' Union's Kim Seung-ho Requests Cooperation from Minister of Personnel Innovation for Amendment of Enforcement Decree of Public Officials' Disaster Compensation Act
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The National Fire Safety Officials Labor Union (Chairman Hong Suntak) met with the new head of the Ministry of Personnel Innovation, Kim Seungho, on the 2nd to actively request cooperation regarding the amendment of the Enforcement Decree of the Public Officials' Disaster Compensation Act, which was passed by the National Assembly on the 29th of last month.
Chairman Hong Suntak stated, “Previously, when firefighters contracted diseases or suffered disabilities or death due to those diseases while performing official duties, the individual or their bereaved family, who lacked medical knowledge, had to prove the causal relationship between the official duties and the disaster in order to be recognized as a work-related injury.”
He added, “The firefighters' union saw the Public Officials' Disaster Compensation Act pass the National Assembly on May 29. We request active cooperation from the Ministry of Personnel Innovation to ensure that the purpose of the amendment is well reflected in the Enforcement Decree and Enforcement Rules.”

In response, Kim Seungho, head of the Ministry of Personnel Innovation, said, “Although this amendment is somewhat delayed, we will actively cooperate with follow-up measures such as revising the Enforcement Decree and Enforcement Rules so that public officials, including firefighters who are relatively more exposed to risks of disasters, can work stably in the field.”
