Hosted by the Busan Sports Council and sponsored by City Gas Co., Ltd., this event carried the slogan ‘Wishing for the 2030 Busan World Expo Hosting.’ A total of 1,700 cycling enthusiasts participated.
Since its inception in 2009, the Busan Citizens Bicycle Competition has been organized by the Busan Sports Council to support the government’s carbon neutrality policy. It promotes the habit of using bicycles, a non-motorized means of transportation, and aims to improve citizens’ health.
This event is a non-competitive race without ranking, open to not only cycling enthusiasts but also families and participants of various ages. It was held on a course that returns along the Nakdong River Bicycle Trail from Hwamyung Ecological Park to Wondong Gayajin-sa Park.
A first-time participant praised, “Riding while feeling the beautiful scenery of the Nakdong River and the cool river breeze allowed me to escape the city and heal. For safety, safety personnel were stationed at dangerous sections along the main course, showing meticulous care.”
Jang In-hwa, chairman of the organizing committee, said, “I hope this event, held for the first time in three years due to the spread of COVID-19, has revitalized Busan’s cycling community that had been stagnant, and that it became a precious time for all enthusiasts.”
